11th Grade: Medical Terminology

COURSE DESCRIPTION: 

Medical Terminology is the language used to describe the body systems, anatomy, physiology, medical processes and procedures, and a variety of diseases in a science-based manner. It provides:

  • Students with the specialized language used by the healthcare team.
  • Enabling healthcare workers to communicate accurately.
  • Articulating concisely.

This course is designed to give the students a comprehensive step-by-step knowledge of word construction, definition, and use of terms related to all areas of medical science. The course includes terms related to the anatomy and physiology of the human body, disease, medical procedures, and language use in all healthcare areas. The competencies in this course are aligned with the Common Core State Standards and the California Career Technical Education Model Curriculum Standards                                          A-G approval: G

 

Note: In this class, you will be memorizing vocabulary, reading the textbook to comprehend the suffix and prefixes, using mindtap (online tool) and workbook to complete the activities, and taking an assessment at the end of each unit. Make sure you have completed the EVERFI certificate for Mock interviews. You will also be required to complete your Resume, Cover Letter, EVERFI certificate, and Job application for the mock interview that will be held in April of the second semester.
