Ms. Tucker's AP English Classroom

Hello! I am Miss Tucker and I am absolutely thrilled to be your teacher this year (or next year)! Whether you are in AP Literature or AP English Language, I am thrilled you are here. In our classes, we will focus on two of my favorite things: reading and writing. But, we won't just be reading and writing - we will also look at how social issues stemming from race, class, gender, and various other prejudices have contributed to literature and various other forms of art. The humanities (art, music, literature, etc.) will be a major component of our class, so if you are a fan of any form of art or social/cultural resistance you will definitely enjoy our class.
AP English Literature and Composition

In AP Literature and Composition, we will look at how literature has evolved over thousands of years. Starting from Shakespeare and ending with the contemporary "Instagram poetry" we will look at how authors have used literature to shine a light on societal issues. This class focuses heavily on fiction analysis, which means we will be looking at theme, figurative language, and reading through literary lenses to prepare for the AP Test, where being able to create your own analysis and understanding of the text is crucial.

Like any AP test, you will receive college credit if you pass and a higher point on your GPA if you pass the course as well.

AP English Language and Composition

In AP Language and Composition, we will prepare for the AP test, which if passed will receive college credit - which means you will save money and at least a few headaches from having to take it during your first year. The class heavily focuses on non-fiction, which means we will read a lot of speeches, essays, and short stories by prominent civil rights leaders, female writers, and writers of color. Throughout the three sections in which the class is split, we will focus heavily on how language is used to convey emotion, persuade an audience, and create change. If you are into social justice and social reform - this class is for you!
